Insight:
Comic Con Africa attendees, especially those attending for the first time, tend to be incredibly overwhelmed by the amount of information and experiences that they must process.
Solution:
To solve this problem a mascot was designed that could act as a guide and companion throughout the whole Comic Con Experience. A friendly face to keep you company as you face the onslaught of information and provide helpful tips to guide you through everything. The character, dubbed Idris Ibis, was modelled after a Hadeda to localise the brand and make it more relatable to the primarily South African audience. This was inspired by Comic Con San Diego's toucan mascot. The mascot was made even more relatable to the target audience by characterising him as excitable and passionate, as the one thing that ties all the varied demographics who attend Comic Con together is their passion for their interests.
Below is a video that shows the many ways Idris Ibis could be utilised in the Comic Con branding, from Instagram posts, to signage, to merchandise.
